Other than Sequestration: What Happened This Week?

A majority of the political news this week revolved around the coming across-the-board spending cuts, known as the Sequester.  However, a lot of other stuff happened this week. Here's a sampling of some of the stories I found most interesting that were mostly overlooked by the mainstreem media.


House GOP actually moves on Gun Violence

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said he will move forward with hearings on Gun Violence legislation dealing with background checks and illegal firearms sales.

Could Hillary 2016 Put Texas in Play?

The Chairman of the Texas GOP stated in an interview that, if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were to run for President in 2016, he is concerned that Texas, with its 38 electoral votes, may not be a lock for Republicans.

Obama may tell SCOTUS "Let the Gays Marry!"

The Obama Administration is considering filing a "friend of the court" brief to the U.S. Supreme Court for the upcoming Proposition 8 case dealing with marriage equality.  Though not unprecedented, it will be one of the more contentious issues for the Executive Branch to stake an official position on with the Court.

The 13th Amendment is ratified by Mississippi... this year

Due to some tragic paperwork issues, and if I may, complete incompetence on SOMEONE's part, the state of Mississippi didn't officially ratify the 13th Amendment of the Constitution, which abolished slavery back in 1865, until February of THIS YEAR!!!
